On occasion of the Easter holidays, we present some of the egg, nest and bird specimens held in the ornithological collection of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History. The entire collection currently includes 239 bird nests, and 1482 inventory units of bird eggs (each unit can contain between 1 and 14 eggs). Bird nests can vary greatly in shape, composition, and placement, while bird eggs differ mainly in size and colouration. In the exhibition showcase, you can see prepared specimens and nests with eggs of some bird species: European Greenfinch (Chloris chloris), Eurasian Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs), Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius), Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio), Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) and Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos). You will find information on habitat, nesting and hatching for each of the species presented.
