The first curator of the Provincial Museum in Ljubljana was Henrik Freyer from Idrija. He was researching in the fields of botany, zoology, paleontology and cartography. During his frequent excursions all over Carniola, he collected numerous plants for his herbarium. In the botanical field, Freyer is best known as the godfather of the Blagay Daphne, the plant about which Slovenian botanists probably wrote most articles. In his herbarium, a specimen of Blagay Daphne from the classic locality (Sv. Lovrenc above Polhov Gradec) is preserved.
